↳ Hello — we're back.

It's been 5 weeks since there was a new episode, life happened but I'm back.

↳ To accompany me during today's episode recording, I lit one of the four candles from Jarilo's new collection — the Four Elements Collection.

The candle I lit is Ignis — which represents the element of fire and has very warm and sweet notes, comforting on this Sunday lost between sun and rain.

↳ This episode is the continuation of the series "Creating a personalized perfume (for someone special)" and is, therefore, Part III.

In this series, I am creating a personalized perfume for my husband, Ricardo.

↳ In episode 015, Part I of this series, I asked him several questions to understand what kind of perfume he wanted — and together we also created a story for this perfume, that is: we created a creative brief for this perfume, as well as a descriptive creative brief.

↳ Later, in episode 020, I flow-charted this story in DETAIL — and to each DETAIL, I associated one or more OLFACTORY DESCRIPTIVE TERMS and — consequently — to each OLFACTORY DESCRIPTIVE TERM, I associated one or more INGREDIENTS.

↳ And now, today, in this episode, I will conceptualize the possible accords and choose the ingredients with which I can finally materialize this project.

↳ To help me with this task, I grouped the ingredients by OLFACTORY DESCRIPTOR — and so I decided that:

↳ The opening of the perfume should be light, transparent, fresh, citrus, and green.

To evoke the tiles, the walls that provide cool corners, the lemon trees, the mints, and the aloe veras.

↳ The heart of the perfume should be powdery, with an earthy, atmospheric, sunscreen-like, and spicy smell.

To bring out elements that evoke the outdoors, the sea breeze, and pink pepper trees.

↳ The base of the perfume should be warm, dry, with a touch of varnish, woody, musky, and animalic.

To evoke the blue-painted wooden door, the swallows, seagulls, and sparrows, the sand and dunes, the clay pots, and fragments of old wood.

↳ Looking at the possible ingredients for the top, I chose to make:

↳ A citrus accord with bergamot EO, orange EO, lemon EO, and florol.

↳ A light accord with hedione and Iso E Super.

↳ A green accord with cassis base and cis-3-hexenol.

↳ A minty accord with petitgrain, stemone, and mint EO.

↳ Looking at the possible ingredients for the heart, I chose to make:

↳ A powdery accord with rose ABS and geranium EO.

↳ An earthy accord with vetiver and veramoss.

↳ A spicy accord with eugenol and pink peppercorn.

↳ Looking at the possible ingredients for the base, I chose to make:

↳ An atmospheric accord with ambroxan and calone.

↳ A woody accord with cedarwood, cedramber, Iso E Super, and polysantol.

↳ And a lot of musk, as it's a material Ricardo really likes.

↳ The next step is to smell these ingredients on paper strips, and then group them according to their accord.

That is: I will form a fan with the ingredients of the citrus accord, another fan with the ingredients of the spicy accord, etc.

↳ This process helps me understand in what proportions the materials work well together.

↳ One thing that's scaring me is that this perfume has a lot of accords to work with.

Indeed, working on a specific perfume for someone's personal taste is challenging me and making me step out of my comfort zone.

But, besides that, it also makes me feel like I can do something special for another person.

↳ In the next episode, we will talk about dilutions.

↳ I also take this opportunity to remind you that at Jarilo we launched a new collection — the Four Elements Collection — have you already purchased and tried any of our aromatic candles?

I will leave the link in the episode notes.

↳ Thank you for listening to this episode of the podcast 'Todos os caminhos vão dar ao aroma'.

If you liked it, don't forget to subscribe — share with friends — leave a comment — or send an email to todososcaminhosvaodaraoaroma@gmail.com.

↳ I hope to receive an email from you telling me what you find most interesting about this process of creating a perfume for someone special.

↳ Until next time.

Happy olfactory experiences!
